The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has confirmed it will once again refuse to support the nomination of Albulena Haxhiu as Assembly Speaker in today’s parliamentary session, scheduled to begin at 15:00.

The confirmation came from AAK MP Time Kadrijaj, who told GazetaBlic:

“Yes, AAK will act the same as in the previous two sessions.”

Failed Votes and Political Deadlock

Haxhiu, proposed by Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (VV), failed to gain the required majority in both previous rounds of voting.

  • In the first vote, she received 57 in favor, 20 against, and 3 abstentions.
  • The second vote produced a nearly identical result: 57 in favor, 19 against, and 3 abstentions.

The Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma) and two non-Serb community MPs abstained, effectively blocking her election.

While the Assembly successfully validated the mandates of MPs in the previous session, the process stalled when it came to electing the Speaker, leading to the session’s suspension.

Session to Resume Today

The continuation of the constitutive session will take place today at 15:00, as political parties search for a new agreement that could break the impasse and allow the new legislature to function.
