Russian drone attacks in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, have left at least 47 people injured, according to local officials.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the drones hit 12 locations in the city on Friday evening. Residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and vehicles were damaged during the attacks, according to Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Following the attacks in Kharkiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for stronger and more decisive support from his country’s allies.
“As the world hesitates to make decisions, almost every night Ukraine turns into a nightmare, losing lives. Ukraine needs reinforcement of air defense. Real and strong decisions need to be made by our partners: the United States, Europe, and all those seeking peace,” he wrote on X in the early hours of Saturday.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched 183 drones overnight. Of these, 77 were shot down, while 73 others were lost from radar, likely due to electronic warfare equipment. According to Ukraine, Russia, which began its invasion of the neighboring state three years ago, also launched two ballistic missiles.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces had shot down 170 Ukrainian drones overnight. The ministry also claimed that eight cruise missiles and three others of different types were shot down.
In southern Russia, four people were injured during a drone attack overnight in Novorossiysk, according to local authorities.
