President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, today paid his respects at the “Martyrs’ Cemetery” in honor of May 5th, the Day of Martyrs of the Homeland.
During the ceremony, Begaj laid a wreath near the “Mother Albania” Monument.
The head of state honored their heroic deeds for the country, while delivering a special message for the youth.
“On May 5th, Martyrs’ Day, we bow before the courage and sacrifice of those who gave everything for the liberation of Albania. Their values, bravery, and commitment to freedom are sacred heritage. It is our duty to pass on this flame of patriotism to the new generation, eternally honoring their memory,” Begaj stated in a social media post.
May 5th is celebrated as the Day of Martyrs of the Homeland, a commemoration for those who gave their lives for freedom, democracy, human rights, and the dignity of every Albanian.
The Day of Martyrs originates from May 5th, 1942, when Qemal Stafa, who became a symbol of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, was killed.
