Biden has bigger support in the world than Trump

According to a new survey by the Pew Center, US President Joe Biden enjoys greater support in other countries than former President Donald Trump.

The poll, conducted from January 5 to May 21, of 40,500 individuals in 34 different states, not in the United States, shows that 43 percent believe that Biden “will do the right thing for the world,” compared to 28 percent who trust Trump.

In 24 countries, the surveyed individuals have more trust in the democrats, while in Hungary and Tunisia, the republicans lead. In the other 8 states, the difference between them is not significant.

The highest confidence in the two was recorded in the Philippines, with 77 percent in favor of Biden and 68 percent for Trump.

However, support for Biden has decreased from last year. 14 out of 21 countries have less confidence in Biden this year compared to 2023.

Some of the most negative reviews of it have to do with the conflict between Israel and Hamas. In all 34 countries where the survey was conducted, disapproval of his policies on the Israel-Hamas war was at the level of 57 percent. The Pew poll was conducted before Biden announced his proposal to end the fighting.

The survey also found that men were more likely than women to express confidence in the former president. But the survey also notes that “women are more inclined than men not to answer this question at all”.

The trend of declining support for both of these political figures appears to be consistent with declining confidence in the United States as an exemplar of democracy.

In all the countries where this survey was conducted, about 40 percent believe that, while the United States used to be an example of democracy in the world, today it is no longer so.
