Civil Society Organizations have addressed an open letter to the Council of Europe expressing their full support for Kosovo’s membership in this institution.
In this letter, the organizations emphasize that membership in the Council of Europe is a fundamental step in strengthening the commitment and realization of human rights and the European perspective.
The letter from civil society organizations states that they will be committed to ensuring that the Government of Kosovo will continue to fulfill all conditions after membership, including the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority.

Open letter in support of Kosovo’s request for membership in the Council of Europe
We, as members of the civil society organizations of Kosovo, want to appeal to the member states of the Council of Europe and express our concerns about the European perspective of Kosovo and the country’s membership in the Council of Europe.
We strongly support Kosovo’s request for membership in the Council of Europe.
Membership in the Council of Europe is a fundamental step in strengthening the country’s commitment and realization of human rights and confirming Kosovo’s future in the EU.
Membership in the Council of Europe would not only help Kosovo’s European integration process, but also accelerate democratization to meet European standards.
We also recognize that Kosovo’s responsibilities do not end with membership. We are committed to ensuring that our government continues to meet all post-accession conditions.
This includes the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority.
Civil society in Kosovo is committed to maintaining pressure on the government to fulfill the obligations to which Kosovo has committed itself, in a complete and transparent manner, ensuring that our path towards European integration will benefit all citizens of Kosovo.
We are ready to support and advocate for these goals, promoting a future where Kosovo progresses as part of the European family.
