U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with Fox Business that the Strait of Hormuz “is reopening” and that ships are returning to normal circulation, though he did not provide further details to support the claim.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, as Iran has threatened to target maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Gulf of Oman if the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports continues, according to BBC.

Reports indicate that the U.S. blockade came into effect on Monday, with the American military stating that no vessels passed through the affected area within the first 24 hours.

Trump’s interview was conducted prior to the latest threats from Iran. During the interview, he also said that “we are not finished yet,” but added that the conflict could be nearing its end and that there is potential for a major agreement with Iran.
