A fire erupted at a waste landfill in Zubin Potok, raising concerns over environmental and health risks in the area.
According to Petrit Fejza, Chief of Police Operations in the north, police units, firefighters, and municipal authorities are on site working to contain the blaze.
Fejza revealed that, based on information from the fire brigade, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. “According to the fire unit, this same landfill has caught fire in previous years due to spontaneous combustion under the waste material,” he stated.
“Yes, it’s true,” Fejza confirmed. “Police units, firefighters, and municipal organs are currently assessing the possibility of stopping the fire. The fire is beneath the waste layer, while smoke is spreading externally.”
This event not only highlights ongoing environmental hazards tied to poorly managed waste facilities but also underlines the need for long-term solutions to prevent recurring incidents of this nature.
