German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reiterated his strong condemnation of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine during a recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, Scholz urged Putin to end the war, withdraw Russian troops, and pursue peace through negotiations.

The Chancellor emphasized the need for a “just and lasting peace” and reaffirmed Germany’s unwavering support for Ukraine. Hebestreit noted that Scholz highlighted Germany’s “steadfast determination” to assist Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression “for as long as is necessary.”

In preparation for the call, Scholz had already spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and plans to follow up with him again to ensure coordination.

Scholz also assured that the European Union would not make any decisions regarding Ukraine without Kyiv’s involvement, underscoring the bloc’s commitment to respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and interests in any diplomatic processes.

This dialogue reflects Germany’s ongoing efforts to maintain pressure on Russia while bolstering Ukraine in its defense against the invasion.
