Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza has called for continued efforts to seek justice for former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders following the latest political developments in Kosovo.
Reacting to the events of Tuesday night, Hamza said the night had been a long one for Kosovo but could also mark a turning point toward what he described as a better path for the country.
Hamza said he expected the state, together with newly elected President Justina Shiroka-Pula, to play a greater role in supporting former KLA leaders and efforts concerning justice, the truth and what he described as the integrity of Kosovo’s liberation war.
“The fight for justice in The Hague can no longer be carried out only by individuals, families, supporters and their defense teams, who for nearly six years have carried the heavy burden of this process on their shoulders. Our state must now stand alongside them, with all the capacities and responsibilities that belong to it,” Hamza wrote.
His remarks came hours after the Kosovo Assembly elected Shiroka-Pula as president, ending a political deadlock that had threatened to trigger another parliamentary election.
