A meeting convened by Kosovo’s acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, with representatives of political parties has begun as part of consultations on the country’s ongoing institutional situation.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti is attending the meeting, along with other senior officials from the Vetëvendosje Movement, including Mimoza Kusari-Lila and Donika Gërvalla. Representatives of non-majority community parties are also present.

Opposition parties, however, have declined Haxhiu’s invitation to participate in the consultations.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) were the first to reject the invitation, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) also turned down the request on Tuesday.

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku said his party does not consider Haxhiu the appropriate political counterpart for such discussions, arguing that consultations should take place with party leaders.

“We hold meetings with party leaders. In this case, the only meeting we can have is with the leader of the LVV, Albin Kurti. In our view, Ms. Haxhiu is a member of parliament, and therefore we can speak only with those responsible for this matter,” Abdixhiku said.

The absence of the main opposition parties leaves the consultations largely centered on Vetëvendosje and representatives of the non-majority communities, as Kosovo continues to face an institutional deadlock.
