The KFOR has confirmed that its commander, Özkan Ulutaş, held an official meeting with Gazmend Muhaxheri, Mayor of Peja, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce security and institutional cooperation in Kosovo.
According to KFOR’s official statement, the meeting focused on deepening institutional relations and reaffirming a shared commitment to maintaining a safe and stable environment for all citizens. The engagement forms part of broader initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between local authorities and international security institutions operating in Kosovo.
KFOR emphasized that regular meetings with local leadership play a critical role in providing direct and valuable insights into local realities, helping to build mutual trust and improving the mission’s capacity to effectively fulfill its mandate.
The NATO-led mission continues to operate under the authority of NATO and in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 adopted in 1999. The mission remains tasked with ensuring a safe and secure environment and guaranteeing freedom of movement throughout Kosovo in an impartial manner.
KFOR also highlighted its close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the EULEX, which act as key security responders within their respective mandates.
The continued collaboration between international peacekeeping forces and local authorities is widely viewed as essential for preserving long-term stability and strengthening security structures across Kosovo.
