The Mayor of Prizren, Shaqir Totaj, has announced that the fire in Prevallë has been extinguished.
In a post on the social network Facebook, Totaj stated that this was achieved thanks to KFOR’s aerial intervention.
He mentioned that there appear to be no signs of the situation recurring and also thanked KFOR for their dedication in protecting the property and lives of residents in Kosovo.
“KFOR once again confirmed their commitment to being present when the property and lives of residents in Kosovo are at risk.
During the aerial intervention, KFOR used helicopters to drop water, extinguishing the fire, and it does not appear that there are signs of the situation repeating.
However, together with all relevant actors on the ground, we are monitoring the situation,” he wrote.

As a result of monitoring the fire situation in Prevallë and after consultations with all relevant actors, including KFOR, it was assessed that to prevent the further spread of the fire, intervention from the air was necessary.
We are grateful and appreciative not only to KFOR but also to all other contributors who helped, first to manage and then to extinguish the fire.
Thanks to the emergency team established by the Directorate of Emergency and Security of the Municipality of Prizren, especially the Prizren firefighters who continuously monitored the situation throughout.
