The Kosovo Assembly will hold an extraordinary session today to consider a draft law proposing amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.

The session is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with the draft legislation concerning the Specialist Chambers listed as the first item on the agenda.

Before the plenary session, the Assembly’s Committee on Legislation is scheduled to meet at 8:00 a.m. to review the draft law and examine its legal aspects, including its compatibility with the Constitution, applicable legislation and parliamentary procedures.

The proposed legislation would amend and supplement Law No. 05/L-053 on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.

The Kosovo Government paved the way on Friday for the initiative to proceed to the Assembly, concluding that there were no legal obstacles to submitting the draft legislation for parliamentary consideration.

The initiative to amend the Specialist Chambers law was proposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

The proposed amendments come amid continued political and public debate in Kosovo over the legal framework governing the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.
