The Kosovo Assembly will open its doors to members of the diaspora from August 10 to 12, Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu announced on Tuesday, inviting citizens living abroad to visit the country’s main legislative institution.
In a video message published on Facebook, Haxhiu encouraged members of the diaspora to visit the Assembly and see firsthand where laws are adopted and important decisions affecting Kosovo are made.
“On August 10, 11 and 12, the doors of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo will be open for you,” Haxhiu said, inviting visitors to tour the institution and learn how its work is conducted.
Visitors will be able to enter the plenary chamber, see where elected MPs sit and learn about the legislative process, from the review of draft laws in parliamentary committees to their final vote in plenary sessions.
Haxhiu said the three-day initiative will also provide an opportunity for diaspora members to see the Assembly from inside and meet elected representatives.
She particularly encouraged families to bring their children, saying the initiative could help younger generations become more familiar with Kosovo’s institutions.
“Most of them know Kosovo through summer holidays, their grandparents’ villages or the streets of our cities. Let them get to know Kosovo through its institutions as well,” Haxhiu said.
The Assembly will welcome diaspora visitors from 12:00 p.m. on August 10, 11 and 12.
