Kosovo’s Special Prosecution, in cooperation with the Special Investigative Unit of the Kosovo Police, has arrested a judge of the Basic Court in Prishtina on suspicion of abusing his official position.
The judge, identified by the initials A.G., was arrested following a months-long investigation conducted by law enforcement authorities, the Special Prosecution said on Friday.
According to prosecutors, investigators collected information and evidence during the investigation that led them to conclude there was reasonable suspicion of the judge’s involvement in the alleged criminal offense of “abuse of official duty.”
“Based on the information and evidence secured during this period, the Special Prosecution has assessed that there is reasonable suspicion of his involvement in the criminal offense,” the prosecution said.
The arrest was carried out as part of the ongoing investigation, while authorities said further details would not be disclosed at this stage.
“Given the need to respect the integrity of the investigative process and the principle of the presumption of innocence, no further details can be shared at this stage,” the Special Prosecution said.
The prosecution and Kosovo Police said they remain committed to investigating corruption, abuse of official authority and other criminal offenses in accordance with the law and criminal justice standards.
The arrest comes as Kosovo authorities continue efforts to strengthen investigations into alleged corruption and misconduct within public institutions, including the judiciary.
The judge remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a final court ruling.
