Kosovo Seeks Bulgaria’s Support for EU Candidate Status Application

PRISHTINA, September 18, 2026 — Kosovo’s chief negotiator with the European Union, Jeton Zulfaj, met with Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova during his visit to Sofia, where he attended the “EU Meets the Balkans” forum.

According to the Kosovo Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting focused on bilateral relations between Kosovo and Bulgaria, regional cooperation, and Kosovo’s European integration process.

Zulfaj thanked Petrova-Chamova for Bulgaria’s support for Kosovo at various stages of its state-building process, as well as for the country’s contribution to security and stability in the region.

During the meeting, Zulfaj emphasized that obtaining EU candidate-country status and opening accession negotiations remain among Kosovo’s key priorities.

He also stressed the importance of Bulgaria’s active support for advancing Kosovo’s application for EU candidate status.
