Following a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened BRICS nations with an additional 10% tariff due to “anti-American policies,” Russia has issued a response.
Kremlin Denies Anti-American Stance
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, stated that the BRICS group of countries has not acted and does not intend to act against any other nation. Peskov acknowledged Trump’s threat to impose an additional 10% tariff on those who align with BRICS’ “anti-American policies,” but countered:
“We have indeed seen President Trump’s statements, but it is very important to emphasize that the uniqueness of a group like BRICS lies in the fact that it is a group of countries that share common approaches and a vision on how to cooperate, based on their interests. And this cooperation within BRICS has never been and will never be directed against third countries,” he affirmed.
BRICS is an international organization that includes China, Russia, India, Brazil, and other African nations, established to increase the global influence of member countries and to challenge the dominance of the U.S. and Western Europe in the international arena.
