The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is participating in a major international gathering of progressive forces in Barcelona, where he highlighted what he described as two “existential crises” confronting the world today.
Kurti is attending the Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM) 2026, a newly established forum bringing together left-wing political parties, civil society organizations, and activists from across the globe. He described the event as the first of its kind, uniting various strands of the international left under a common platform.
During his address at a leadership meeting of the Party of European Socialists, Kurti spoke about the challenges of democratic backsliding, global conflicts, and the need for stronger cooperation among progressive movements.
He emphasized that the left must overcome internal divisions and focus on building common ground in the face of mounting global threats. Among these, he identified environmental catastrophe and the risk of nuclear war as the two primary existential crises of the modern era.
“The history of the left is marked by internal divisions, but this is not a time for narrow sectarianism,” Kurti said, calling for coordinated international action beyond national borders.
He also praised the organizers of the summit, noting that for the first time, key leftist organizations—including the Progressive Alliance, the Socialist International, and the Party of European Socialists—have come together under the umbrella of the Global Progressive Mobilisation.
Kurti is accompanied at the summit by senior representatives of his party, including Mrika Limani Myrtaj and Anila Vrajolli.
