Slovenian Green MEP Vladimir Prebilič reacted to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s decision not to participate in today’s European Union–Western Balkans Summit.

Prebilič assessed that Serbia’s choice not to send any representatives to the summit could be perceived by the EU as a “slap in the face.” However, he emphasized that the EU is not there to hold grudges, but to provide continuous support.

“The European Union is not here to hold a grudge, but will always provide full support, because this is not only about the Serbian leadership, but also about the Serbian people, to whom a helping hand must be extended,” Prebilič stated, as reported by N1 television.

The MEP’s reaction follows President Vučić’s announcement that neither he nor any other Serbian representative will attend the EU–Western Balkans Summit.
