President Vjosa Osmani gave an interview to Euronews during her visit to Brussels, where she attended today’s EU–Western Balkans Summit.
She stated that Kosovo’s EU membership process has been a long-term effort.
“Practically, we only applied a few years ago, and we hope our application will be on the Council members’ table very, very soon. In fact, as an identity, as a state, as a nation, we have contributed to the values on which the European Union has stood for centuries. Therefore, we strongly believe that, although it is a very complex process, if merit-based criteria were applied, Kosovo would actually have been one of the frontrunners by now,” Osmani told Euronews.
According to her, the process is also complicated due to five countries that do not recognize Kosovo. “We sincerely hope that they will understand that Kosovo’s EU membership is not only beneficial for the people of Kosovo, but it is a strategic imperative, a security imperative for the entire continent,” she added.
