The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has welcomed the approval of amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers, as well as the election of the new President of the Republic of Kosovo.
In a statement, the PDK said that with these two decisions, the Kosovo Assembly had fulfilled the two demands the party had insisted on in recent days.
“With today’s decisions, the Kosovo Assembly has fulfilled the two demands that the Democratic Party of Kosovo has insisted on in recent days: the approval of amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the election of the President of the Republic,” the statement said.
According to the PDK, these decisions have prevented a new institutional crisis and enabled Kosovo’s institutions to function fully.
“Kosovo needs stable, functional and responsible institutions,” the party emphasized.
The PDK also mentioned former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, who are facing judicial proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
“Such institutions are also needed by Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi and their fellow fighters in their pursuit of justice and the protection of the truth about Kosovo’s liberation war,” the PDK said.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo thanked the MPs who supported the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers.
The PDK also extended special thanks to the thousands of citizens who protested in Prishtina for several consecutive nights, calling for the approval of the amendments.
“Their voice and persistence were an important part of this process,” the statement said.
In conclusion, the PDK said that following today’s decisions, Kosovo now has constituted and functioning institutions.
“Now is the time for work, responsibility and commitment to the interests of the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens,” the statement concluded.
