Polish authorities have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack at a factory operated by drone component manufacturer WB Electronics, with prosecutors examining whether a foreign intelligence service was involved.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight at the company’s facility in Skarżysko-Kamienna in southeastern Poland. Prosecutors said the investigation concerns a suspected “terrorist crime” involving the deliberate setting of a fire at the plant.
WB Electronics is one of Poland’s largest private defense companies and produces reconnaissance drones and loitering munitions, including the FlyEye and Warmate systems, which have been used by Ukraine against Russian forces.
According to investigators, the suspected attack may have involved placing a device containing flammable materials on the company’s premises. Prosecutors from the Kraków branch of Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office said they were investigating the possible involvement of a foreign intelligence service acting against Poland.
The fire was extinguished within approximately two hours following a rapid response by an employee and firefighters. No injuries were reported, although a small facility at the site was damaged.
The suspected arsonist remains at large.
The incident comes amid growing concern across Europe over suspected sabotage operations targeting infrastructure and companies connected to military assistance for Ukraine. Western authorities have increasingly linked a number of such incidents to Russia, although the Polish investigation has not publicly identified any country as being responsible for the fire.
Earlier this month, German authorities also launched an investigation after a drone carrying explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport, a major logistics hub linked to military supplies for Ukraine.
The suspected attack on the WB Electronics facility adds to concerns about possible hybrid operations targeting European defense infrastructure and companies involved in supporting Ukraine as the war with Russia continues.
