A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Granada in Spain’s Andalusia region in the early hours of Saturday.
According to local authorities, the earthquake caused damage to buildings and vehicles, while no injuries have been reported so far.
The tremors were recorded shortly after 1:00 a.m. local time. Footage broadcast by Spanish media showed debris on the streets and damaged vehicles.
Reuters reports that emergency response teams in Andalusia rescued several people from damaged buildings.
Following the earthquake, regional authorities declared a state of emergency. Andalusia’s Deputy President, Antonio Sanz Cabello, urged residents to remain calm and avoid unnecessary movement, reports Dukagjini.
“If you are in Granada, felt the earthquake, are safe, and your home has not been damaged, remain calm and avoid unnecessary entry into or exit from buildings,” he said.
Authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the earthquake.
