The Office of the Prime Minister has responded following the publication on social media of photographs showing acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti at a meeting attended by Fehim Sali, who was recently arrested on suspicion of espionage.
Government spokesperson Arlind Manxhuka said that over the past five and a half years in office, Kurti has held meetings with dozens of organizations and delegations representing minority communities that are registered and operate in Kosovo.
“Dozens of minority organizations, with their delegations, that are registered and operate in Kosovo, have been received by Prime Minister Kurti over these five and a half years. We do not conduct background checks on anyone, nor do we grant amnesty to anyone,” Manxhuka wrote on Facebook.
He added that Kosovo’s security institutions, including the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA), are uncovering an increasing number of suspected espionage cases.
The statement comes after photographs of Fehim Sali with Kurti, as well as other photographs showing him alongside political and institutional figures, were circulated on social media.
Sali, a teacher from Dragash, was arrested on suspicion of engaging in espionage activities on behalf of Serbian authorities.
The photograph with Kurti is from a meeting held in October 2022. According to announcements published at the time by the Office of the Prime Minister, Kurti had received representatives of the Gorani community in Kosovo from academia, non-governmental organizations, the media, and state institutions.
Fehim Sali was among the participants at that meeting and has since been arrested on suspicion of espionage.
