Andrey Kovachev, a Member of the European Parliament and head of the Bulgarian delegation within the European People’s Party (EPP), said that the political group has launched proceedings against its associate member, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), led by Aleksandar Vučić.
Kovachev made the remarks during a panel at the “EU Meets the Balkans” forum, held on Friday, September 18, in Sofia, where he sharply criticized the SNS and Aleksandar Vučić.
“They are an associate member of the EPP, but we have launched proceedings against them, and the voices within the EPP are now very, very strong. Enough is enough, and we have waited for far too long. Aleksandar Vučić has been playing both sides for far too long,” Kovachev said, according to N1.
The Bulgarian MEP also spoke about the approach taken by some European leaders toward Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
“Unfortunately, you have seen that even European leaders, such as Merz and Macron, have not been entirely clear in their messages because, as I have already mentioned, we need Serbia. Serbia is extremely important, and they always hope that what Aleksandar tells them is true, but it is not,” Kovachev concluded.
