The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, has spoken out regarding the blocking of several capital city projects by the Ministry of Culture.
He accused the Government of obstructing progress in Prishtina and added that the municipal management continues to work in areas where the central level is unable to halt operations.
“We are working across all parts of the capital, continuing projects in places where the Government can’t block them. In every part of the city, you can see major work being done. But where they’ve had the opportunity to block, they haven’t missed the chance to do so. For example, the capital’s ring road project, for which we had a budget of 204 million euros approved — with 84 million of that, or 40%, coming in the form of grants — was blocked. So this was essentially free money, but the Government saw fit to halt this major project, even though it was ready to proceed three years ago,” Rama stated on RTV Dukagjini.
“Unfortunately, this is purely political — whether it’s coming from a party or individuals who present themselves as patriots, claiming to want the best for the country — they do everything they can to block every major project for the capital,” he said.
Furthermore, the mayor stated that the municipality has started filing criminal charges against any individual or citizen who obstructs the development of the capital.
