Kosovo’s Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rašić, was absent from today’s meeting of the Government of Kosovo.
However, Rašić told Gazeta Express that the decision to establish a working group to draft a strategy for challenging the Specialist Chambers’ convictions against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders had also been approved with his consent.
“I wasn’t at the meeting. I’m travelling. But I believe they approved it,” he said.
Asked whether his deputy minister had his approval to vote in favour of the decision, Rašić replied: “Yes, I believe so.”
Prime Minister Albin Kurti described as unjust the ruling by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, which on 16 September found Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi guilty of war crimes and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 13 to 25 years.
Kurti said today’s decision was “important” and, in his view, gives concrete form to the government’s commitment to “pursuing justice and defending the historical truth of our liberation war.”
