Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine on April 16, striking major cities with missiles and drones and causing significant civilian casualties and destruction.

The capital, Kyiv, was among the hardest hit, with residential areas engulfed in flames and thick black smoke rising across the skyline. At least seven people were killed and 72 injured nationwide, according to officials.

Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that a 12-year-old child was among the victims, while 45 residents were wounded in the capital alone. Emergency crews rescued survivors from heavily damaged apartment buildings, including a mother and child trapped under debris.

Missile strikes hit a residential building in the central Podil district, while fires broke out in northern parts of the city, injuring emergency workers as debris fell across multiple locations.

In the southeastern city of Dnipro, at least two people were killed and 10 injured, with images showing apartment buildings consumed by flames. Attacks also targeted Odesa, where five people were injured, and Kharkiv, where drone strikes left two more wounded.

The latest escalation highlights the continued intensity of the الحرب, with civilian infrastructure once again bearing the brunt of the attacks.
