In the joint conference with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on Friday in Belgrade, the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, said that he also talked with the Serbian president about the subject of Kosovo.
“We talked about the normalization of relations with Kosovo and this is very important”, stressed Scholz. “There, we have reached an agreement, we have agreed and we have defined the goals, which the parties must implement, and I would like to emphasize that we will do everything we can, so that each party gives its contribution and fulfills the commitment given in a way that the common European perspecti
ve, i.e. integration into the European Union, is achieved”, the German chancellor underlined, Radio Kosova broadcasts.
“I’m saying once again that we want to do everything possible, so that this can be achieved with a greater speed, so that we can move forward”, stressed Scholz.
He also underlined the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
“I would like to use my visit here to emphasize once again Germany’s clear stance on the European perspective of the Western Balkans. It is my ambition and my commitment to help and take care that the countries of the Western Balkans, after the promise made 20 years ago at the Thessaloniki Summit for integration into the European Union, that after such a long time, these countries have to open this perspective and for this promise to be fulfilled. So, there remains a promise that must be fulfilled and we want to help make this promise a reality, as European integration will advance well-being, stability and peace in the region,” he said.
“Germany has been pushing forward and supporting this commitment for ten years through the so-called Berlin Process, and we will continue to do so in the future,” Scholz said.
In October, the next meeting of the Berlin Process will be held, where I will emphasize once again the fact that the perspective of the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union has no alternative”, he underlined.
Scholz said that he discussed all these issues during the meeting with the president of Serbia. “For example, I emphasized that the European perspective of the states and peoples in the Western Balkans is also helped by good neighborly relations. For relations and good neighborliness between the countries in the Western Balkans, we must contribute together, that’s why I once again used the opportunity to emphasize the need for good neighborly relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and its territorial and state integrity, which is an important project in the European path towards the EU”, the German chancellor emphasized, among other things, who said that regarding the need for good neighborliness with the Serbian president, he also spoke about Kosovo.
