The Serbia Centre (SRCE) party has stated that Serbia has once again failed to align itself with an important European Union foreign and security policy decision, arguing that official claims about alignment with the EU are “mere propaganda.”

According to a statement from the party, the issue concerns a decision of the EU Council from March 2026 introducing restrictive measures in response to cyberattacks against the EU and its member states.

The statement further described the targeted entities as companies acting as “hacker-for-hire” groups involved in illegal cyber activities, allegedly conducting attacks on institutions, energy systems, hospitals, and schools, as well as stealing sensitive personal data and selling it on black markets.

SRCE also claimed that Serbia itself is frequently targeted by such cyberattacks, but lacks sufficient capacity to defend against them effectively. The party referenced a recent alleged cyberattack on Telekom, during which data from at least 150,000 users was reportedly stolen.

The party described Serbia’s decision not to join the EU measures as “incomprehensible,” arguing that cooperation with the EU would be crucial in strengthening cyber defense capabilities in the event of major attacks.

SRCE called on state institutions to make decisions in line with national interests and criticized what it described as inconsistencies and a lack of a clear foreign policy strategy. It also referenced statements by Foreign Minister Marko Đurić regarding efforts to accelerate the adoption of pro-European legislation.
