Defense Minister Ejup Macedonci, 24 hours after the blockade at the border with Serbia of over 1,500 Kosovar citizens, said that these actions by Belgrade came after Aleksandar Vučić’s calls to the “Cobra” units.
He sounded the alarm that Serbia, with its hegemonic and aggressive approach towards Kosovo, will lead to tensions continuing.
According to Macedonci, this is also evidenced by the ongoing exercises since April 8th at the border with Kosovo, where the Serbian army is testing offensive weapons, despite being camouflaged as preparation for territorial defense.
“We assess that these tensions will continue. There may be other forms, one of which we have noticed from April 8th to the 21st is an exercise that the Serbian army is conducting in the southern part of Serbian territory. It is one of the largest ever conducted by the Serbian army. During this exercise, the use of equipment and armament systems poses a threat to stability and security in the Balkans,” he said on A2 CNN.
“Serbia has camouflaged all its actions so far as preparation and militarization for defense. Serbia will test offensive, not defensive equipment. Despite setting up 48 bases on the border with Kosovo in the southern part of its territory, it has continued to proclaim that all this mobilization was to prepare for territorial defense. Tomorrow, we will witness Serbia testing offensive capabilities, including kamikaze drones, which are not used for defense but for attacks against others.”
According to him, NATO’s mobilization to increase the presence of KFOR troops in Kosovo and Bosnia comes after an assessment of the risk by local authorities and continuous arms purchases by Belgrade.
