Two individuals suspected of espionage in cooperation with the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) have been arrested in Ferizaj.

One of the arrested is a former Customs official who was dismissed in 2004.

Murat Mehmeti, a former investigator in the north, stated on the FIVE program that BIA has had operational structures in Kosovo since the pre-war period.

According to him, these structures include networks for spreading disinformation, particularly in the northern part of Mitrovica.

“They have a structure, and they had the same structure even before the war. I’m talking about the simplest network of spreading disinformation. In the northern part of Mitrovica, there were cafés where Serbian-speaking citizens who spoke Albanian well would gather. These individuals, employed before the war as conductors and drivers who had contact with the public, would receive daily tasks to spread specific topics in the northern part. This is part of the functioning as instructed by the Yugoslav system, and it continues today,” he stated.

Mehmeti emphasized that Serbian espionage networks were active during the Yugoslav period and continue to operate in various forms today.

He raised suspicions that they might be part of an old spy network created in the 1990s during Radoman Božović’s time.

This must be an old network. One of the arrested was a high-ranking customs official, and the head of this network likely traces back to Radoman Božović, Mihal Ketezi, and the Novi Sad group… First, they activate a proven, reliable network that has yielded results in the past because the files remained there. It is certain that this is an old network created in the 1990s during Radoman Božović’s time,” Mehmeti stated.

Meanwhile, former investigator Naser Sopjani said that spies should be looked for elsewhere, not just in the north, because “where there is no suspicion, that’s where the spies should be.
