The former chief negotiator of Kosovo, Edita Tahiri, has said that now is the time when the USA and the EU must implement the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
According to her, Kosovo should establish the Association, while Serbia should recognize the state of Kosovo de jure. Tahiri says that this would happen on the date when Serbia would enter the EU and on the same date Kosovo also implements the obligation for the Association.
“It is time for the US and the EU to implement the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia through arbitration with an agreement that includes the binding obligations of the two parties: on the one hand, Kosovo implements the association, on the other hand, Serbia recognizes the de jure state of Kosovo – this agreement will to specify that on the date of Serbia’s entry into the EU, on the same date, Serbia officially recognized Kosovo and Kosovo implemented the association. Such an agreement would be guaranteed by the US, EU and NATO. There are such models in the history of peace agreements between states that have had disagreements – it is time to make such a historic agreement, so that the Western Balkans can finally achieve a lasting peace”, she wrote
