The British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, has warned that the borders of all countries will be much more insecure if Russian President Vladimir Putin is not defeated. During a high-level meeting at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding developments in Ukraine, Lammy emphasized that if Putin succeeds, the principles of the UN Charter would lose their meaning.
He pointed out that Putin’s success would encourage others to pursue “imperialist wars,” adding: “If Putin is not defeated, all our borders will be much more insecure.”
Lammy also stated that Putin is attempting to “push Ukraine into darkness” by targeting the country’s energy infrastructure.
He noted that Russia had lost many troops in the 1000-day war in Ukraine and had resorted to recruiting soldiers from North Korea and seeking ballistic missile support from Iran, stressing: “These actions must be met with a strong response.”
Lammy recalled that this is why the UK imposed sanctions on Iran Air, the Iranian national airline, and the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).
Highlighting the need for decisive and united action for peace and stable security, Lammy concluded: “My message to Putin today is simple. We will fight Russian aggression at every turn.”
