Albanian Armed Forces, in collaboration with other operational ground forces and with assistance from the European Civil Protection Mechanism, have successfully concluded a challenging day battling wildfires across the country.
International Cooperation Brings Fires Under Control
In the Municipality of Finiq, the Albanian Air Force, working with two Greek firefighting aircraft deployed through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, managed to bring the fire under control in the Shtugari mountain range and the cross-border area. Close coordination between Albania’s National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies (AKMC) and the Greek Civil Protection Agency facilitated the entry of Greek aerial assets and the efficient execution of the mission. Currently, the situation in Finiq is under control and stabilized.
Aerial and Ground Interventions Successful
Meanwhile, another successful aerial intervention took place in Poliçan, where flames threatened forested areas inaccessible by ground. In Elbasan as well, continuous efforts by the Regional Fire Protection Directorate, the Armed Forces, and local structures resulted in the isolation of the fire, averting significant environmental and material damage.
Ministry Issues Public Alert Amid High Risk
Given the current hot weather and the high risk of fires across the entire Mediterranean region, as warned by the official Copernicus EMS service map, maximum caution is required from citizens.
The Ministry of Defense urges citizens to exercise increased care, to avoid starting fires in nature, and to immediately notify relevant authorities in case of danger. All civil protection structures remain on full alert, ready for any necessary intervention.
