U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that tariffs on European Union products will be set at around 25%, hinting that tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico will come into effect in early April.

Speaking during the first cabinet meeting of his administration, Trump described the European Union—a creation that Washington had long encouraged—as an effort aimed at harming the United States.

“Let’s be honest, the European Union was formed to harm the United States,” Trump said.

When asked if he had made a final decision on the tariff level for the EU block, Trump added, “We’ll announce it very soon, and it will generally be 25%.”

He mentioned that this move would affect many products, including cars, asserting that the EU has “really exploited us a lot.”
