WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Kash Patel, a former National Security official and staunch Trump ally, to lead the FBI, signaling his intent to oust current Director Christopher Wray. Patel, who served as an advisor during Trump’s first term, has advocated for restructuring the FBI, including removing its intelligence functions and purging employees who do not support Trump’s agenda.

Patel’s controversial views include shutting down the FBI’s Hoover Building and reallocating its workforce to “chase down criminals.” His nomination, which requires Senate confirmation, could face opposition from both Senate Democrats and some Republicans.

Trump’s move to replace Wray, whom he appointed in 2017, comes amid ongoing tensions over the FBI’s investigations into Trump. The nomination is likely to stir further debate on the politicization of the agency.

Trump has also named Chad Chronister, Hillsborough County Sheriff, as his pick for DEA Administrator, working alongside his choice for Attorney General, Pam Bondi.
