The United States Senate has rejected a resolution aimed at blocking the sale of weapons to Israel, despite growing dissent among Democratic lawmakers.

According to international media reports, an increasing number of Democratic senators voted to halt the arms transfers, prompting Senator Bernie Sanders to declare that “the tide is shifting.” Sanders has repeatedly tried to stop offensive weapons sales to Israel over the past year.

Although the resolution ultimately failed to pass, 27 Democrats voted in favor—more than half of the party’s Senate caucus—signaling a significant shift in sentiment. This growing opposition reflects a deepening frustration among some of Israel’s international allies.

Senator Patty Murray, who had previously opposed similar resolutions brought by Sanders, changed her stance this time.
“As a longtime friend and supporter of Israel, I am voting in favor to send a message: the Netanyahu government cannot continue with this strategy,” she said in a statement.

Another senior Democrat, Senator Dick Durbin, described the decision as “painful,” stating:
“For many of us who have dedicated our congressional careers to supporting Israel, standing with them in difficult times, it is impossible to explain or defend what is happening today.”
“Gaza is starving and dying because of Bibi Netanyahu’s policies,” Durbin added.
