European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kosovo on Thursday as part of her Western Balkans tour, where she was received by Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu in Prishtina.

Von der Leyen is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Albin Kurti later in the day, followed by a joint press conference.

Her visit to Kosovo is part of a regional tour running from September 30 to October 2, focused on the next steps toward European Union membership and the implementation of the €6 billion Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

Von der Leyen began the tour in Albania on Wednesday, where she held talks with Albanian leaders on the country’s EU accession process and reforms.

Following her visit to Kosovo, the European Commission president is scheduled to travel to Montenegro and then North Macedonia. Her regional itinerary also includes Serbia, while a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina has been excluded due to the ongoing electoral process there.

Von der Leyen’s visit comes as Kosovo continues to pursue closer integration with the European Union and implementation of reforms linked to the bloc’s Growth Plan.
