Russian leader Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that he remains committed to ending the war in Ukraine peacefully.
A statement from the Kremlin following their phone call on Tuesday revealed the key demands Putin outlined before agreeing to a ceasefire.
- A “key condition” to prevent further escalation must be the complete cessation of foreign military air operations and intelligence-sharing with Kyiv.
- Any agreement must be “comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term” and address “the root causes of the crisis.”
- Ukraine must end “compulsory mobilization” and halt the rearming of its military.
- Any resolution must consider Russia’s “legitimate security interests.”
In response to the demands, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Putin of setting so many conditions that “nothing will work at all.”
