A total of 38 wildfires were reported across Albania by 8 p.m. on Thursday, with 18 fires still being monitored and 14 remaining active, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense.
The largest firefighting operation is underway in Gurë-Lurë in the Dibër region, where dozens of personnel are battling the flames with support from two Air Tractor aircraft. Authorities said the threat to nearby homes has been contained.
Firefighting operations are also continuing in Tirana, Krujë, Përmet, Mirditë, Shkodër and Elbasan, with authorities reporting that the situation has been brought under control in several areas.
In Finiq, fires in Dhivër and Rumanxë have been completely extinguished, while the fire in Dhrovjan is under control.
A total of 309 members of the Albanian Armed Forces, 22 vehicles, three helicopters and two Air Tractor aircraft have been deployed as part of the response.
“The National Civil Protection Agency continues to coordinate operations throughout the country, with priority given to protecting lives, homes and citizens’ property,” the Ministry of Defense said.
Meanwhile, major wildfires have also been reported in Ulcinj, Montenegro.
According to information published by the Municipality of Ulcinj, fires were reported in the areas of Gaç, Mali i Brisë and Klezna during the day. Authorities said the fires were spreading and posed a threat to residential properties.
Two aircraft operated by Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior were also deployed to support firefighting efforts in the affected areas.
The fires come amid a period of elevated wildfire risk across the region, with high temperatures, dry vegetation and strong winds complicating firefighting operations.
