Leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France — commonly referred to as the E3 group — have agreed to strengthen collective defense and security cooperation with international partners, according to an official statement from the British government.

The meeting took place during the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed strategies aimed at reinforcing European and transatlantic security.

Commitment to Strengthening Collective Security

A spokesperson from Downing Street conveyed Starmer’s message emphasizing that the three nations must fully utilize their strong defense capabilities to enhance shared security and deliver tangible benefits for their citizens.

The leaders also reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine, particularly in response to recent Russian attacks, and reiterated their commitment to working toward a just and lasting peace.

Challenges in UK–EU Defense Cooperation

Despite Starmer’s recent advocacy for closer cooperation with the European Union, London and Brussels have yet to achieve significant progress in strengthening their defense partnership.

Nevertheless, the E3 leaders confirmed their determination to maintain coordinated military and political support for Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia, underlining the importance of allied unity during escalating geopolitical tensions.
