LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku says the names discussed with Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti as potential candidates for Kosovo’s presidency broadly meet the principles previously agreed by the two parties.
Speaking after the meeting, Abdixhiku described the discussion as “a step forward”, noting that some of the proposed names align more closely with the agreed criteria than others.
He declined to reveal the names publicly, saying that further meetings would be needed before a final candidate is selected.
“I cannot discuss specific names at this stage, but we will meet again to finalise and select the next President of the Republic of Kosovo,” Abdixhiku said.
He also addressed the broader political deadlock, saying that LDK continues to face “deep constitutional uncertainties” over the constitution of the Assembly.
According to Abdixhiku, LDK’s current role is to contribute to resolving the presidential issue, while maintaining its political independence.
He rejected any suggestion that LDK is acting as an extension of another political party, stressing that the party represents its own political identity and historical legacy.
“LDK is LDK’s,” Abdixhiku said, adding that the party would continue to speak with full conviction about what it has represented throughout its 37-year history.
