Kosovo’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca, stated that when it comes to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), there are no political divisions.

Speaking about Tuesday’s march in support of the former KLA leaders, Konjufca said the protest is justified.

“Besides that, its motto is very well chosen. It is not about politics, but about justice — justice for us, for Kosovo, and for all those facing this injustice at the Specialist Chambers. Participation appears to be large among the citizens of Kosovo. We must show that we are united as a people, as citizens, when facing accusations against the KLA. When it comes to the KLA, there are no political parties,” he said in an interview with RTK.

Konjufca also confirmed that he will travel to The Hague.

“This will be the third time I am going again to The Hague for the closing process. These are the closing arguments of the defense teams of Mr. Thaçi, Mr. Jakup Krasniqi, Mr. Selimi, and Mr. Veseli. As a state, we believe this indictment against the leaders of the General Staff of the Kosovo Liberation Army is scandalous. We maintain a clear position that the KLA stands at the foundation of our state’s freedom and independence. It is the most sublime value our people have created,” Konjufca said.

He added that the KLA emerged from the people themselves.

“It was not created from afar. It was not established by political decrees. It was a popular awakening to defend our country from Serbian genocide. This is the Kosovo Liberation Army. Anyone who claims that the KLA’s goal was the cleansing of Serbs, the elimination of other political figures, or the targeting of national minorities or those who disagreed with it — that is a very dangerous distortion with harmful intentions. The aim is to cast dark clouds over the statehood and independence of the Republic of Kosovo. We will not allow this. We will raise our voice against these indictments.”

Konjufca expressed strong confidence that the court will dismiss the charges.

“Because we firmly believe in the purity of our war — which was a defensive war, not a war of aggression or destruction against another people, but a war to raise our people toward freedom and independence — I strongly believe that in April these indictments will be dismissed as unsustainable. The KLA leaders will return among us and to their families, who have missed them for so long. Kosovo will win through this. When that happens, I believe the biggest loser will be Serbia,” he concluded.
