Ilya Remeslo, a former supporter of the regime of Vladimir Putin, has outlined the reasons why he has turned against him and is now calling for the Russian president’s immediate resignation.
Lawyer Remeslo was considered one of the individuals closest to Vladimir Putin.
In a post on the platform X, he listed five reasons why he has withdrawn his support for Putin.
According to him, the war in Ukraine began as a “police action” but turned into a conflict with millions of victims. The economy, he said, has been severely damaged due to sanctions, the loss of trade partnerships, destruction of infrastructure, and poverty is now more widespread than ever. Remeslo added that wealth is concentrated in the hands of the elite.
He also pointed to the blocking of online communication platforms and the imposition of state-controlled alternatives.
It is worth recalling that just a day earlier, Russian media reported that more than 13 million residents of Moscow had no access to the internet—something they linked to Putin’s fears over recent developments related to the war and the Middle East, as well as his involvement.
Remeslo added that 26 years in power have served to corrupt authority, suppress criticism, and avoid debate and fair elections.
In conclusion, he described Putin as illegitimate, called for his resignation and trial as a war criminal, and ended with a call for freedom.
