Concerns have risen in Washington, D.C. after drones of unknown origin were seen flying over a military base where senior government officials reside.

The presence of these drones has raised alarms and led to heightened security measures, as authorities work to determine their origin.

According to a report by Washington Post, US officials have continuously monitored drones flying over Fort McNair, a military base in Washington where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are stationed. The drones’ origin remains unknown, alarming relevant agencies and prompting increased surveillance of the area.

Fort McNair, home to the National Defense University and senior Pentagon officials, is a critical security location. Although it has not traditionally housed political leaders, some officials from the Trump administration were relocated there due to heightened security concerns. Repeated nighttime drone sightings over the past ten days have triggered increased security measures and a White House meeting to determine a response.

A senior government official confirmed a high level of readiness, especially in light of recent US and Israel strikes against Iran, which have created a tense security environment. Experts note that Fort McNair does not have the same level of protection as other military installations in the area, raising additional concerns about the security of senior officials residing there.

US authorities continue to investigate the drones’ origin and are strengthening surveillance measures around Fort McNair.
