Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he is optimistic about reaching a “political agreement” with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
After a meeting at the Assembly with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, Kurti said that the issue of the President was not the only topic discussed.
“The main issue discussed, but I must say not the only one, is precisely the fact that we have only three weeks left until the election of the President, and for this we must maximize our efforts,” he said.
Kurti stated that the meeting with Abdixhiku “took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.”
“We are determined to avoid new elections, because new elections would not be a solution for the number of 80 deputies,” he said.
“I remain optimistic that through such meetings and discussions we can reach a political agreement, but I cannot say that we have achieved it today. However, the constructive atmosphere on one hand and the goodwill to avoid new elections—which are not a solution—on the other hand, make me optimistic for these remaining three weeks. I hope we will not use all the time until the last day, or as sometimes happens in our institutions, the last hour,” Kurti added.
The Prime Minister was asked about the options discussed in today’s meeting, but said they must preserve the “confidentiality of the discussions.”
“Now, we are leaders of democratic parties and we are transparent regarding the process, but nevertheless the meeting was tête-à-tête and we must preserve the confidentiality of the discussions,” he said.
“At the moment when discussions and initiatives bring concrete results, then we will be able to respond concretely about the achievements. But as long as this is not the case, we cannot speak about ideas discussed there that have neither led to failure nor success,” Kurti concluded.
