Ukrainian forces have “partially repelled” Russian troops from the town of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian military said.

According to foreign media, in an update on the situation on the battlefield, the military said a total of 18 Russian attacks were repelled, while active fighting continues in the northern and northwestern parts of the city.

Our military analyst, Michael Clarke, said Ukraine was able to repel Russian advances by diverting troops from military units to the south.

“Parts of their best brigades have been sent north to stem the tide,” he said.

Earlier, the head of Ukraine’s police force in the Kharkiv region described the situation in the city of Vovchansk as “extremely difficult”.

Oleksiy Kharkivskiy, Vovchansk’s patrol police chief, said Russian forces were setting up positions inside the city.
