Hungary’s election winner, Péter Magyar, has called on outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to withdraw his veto on a €90 billion loan for Ukraine before stepping down.

According to Magyar, if oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline resume, Orbán should lift his so-called “technical veto” that is blocking the EU procedure. The loan was approved by EU leaders in December but was later stalled due to a dispute between Hungary and Ukraine.

The European Commission is preparing to release the funds once the blockage is resolved, while several EU leaders are pushing for the assistance to Ukraine to be disbursed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Hungary continues to maintain several other blockades against Ukraine, including sanctions packages and the country’s EU accession process.
