The lawyer representing the family of the police sergeant killed in the 24 September 2023 attack in Banjska, Afrim Bunjaku, Arianit Koci, has requested life imprisonment for the defendants, stressing the lack of remorse and the seriousness of the crime, reports Ekonomia Online.
Lawyer Arianit Koci stated that the attack was not only directed against a police officer, but against the entire state of Kosovo.
Koci emphasized that there has been no expression of remorse or distancing from the defendants regarding their actions.
“Afrim Bunjaku continues to be killed, his family continues to be killed, because no one has shown remorse, no one has distanced themselves. I would understand a situation where someone says ‘I did not take part,’ since they have the right to say whatever they want, but also expresses sorrow for the death of the police officer, sorrow for my family’s loss. But there is none—no remorse. No remorse and no criticism of the attack that was carried out, not only against police officer Afrim Bunjaku, but against all of us. The aim was to detach a part of Kosovo’s territory, and we are all part of that territory,” he said.
“I am not heartless, don’t get me wrong. I feel sorry for every young man who is harmed or imprisoned for nothing. But I do not feel sorry when someone commits crimes, when it is proven with evidence as presented by the prosecution, and still shows no remorse. All of this makes us question whether any of us are safe in our own state. Kosovo is an independent state; no part of it can be separated, and everyone must understand that. The evidence is clear. You have seen that on Viber there is a moment that says ‘it has started’. The war has begun. This is not a game. All of this was done knowingly,” he said.
